Vegan Crispy Creme Donuts

Yes, these crispy creme donuts are cruelty-free, but please don’t be fooled they are evil. If you are on a fitness journey, I wouldn’t recommend eating these bad boys too often. I would say treat yourself to ONE if you make them for your family as a junk food dessert for the week, but I would be setting you up for failer. LOL! It is tough only to eat one of these donuts. So, if you decide to make them, and you kill the entire batch by yourself don’t say I didn’t warn you. So, proceed with caution! HA!


3 cups all-purpose flour
1 package yeast (optional, read directions)
1/4 cup warm water (110 degrees)
3/4 cup almond milk warmed
1/4 cup coconut palm sugar
1/2 teaspoon Himalayan pink salt
3 tablespoons soy-free vegan butter (earth balance)
4 teaspoons (Ener-g) egg replacer or flaxseed egg


Step One(1)

Grapeseed or Almond oil for frying ( smoke point for both are 216*c and 420 Fahrenheit)

Step Two(2)

Whisk together the distilled water, yeast, milk, sugar, butter, salt, and 1 1/2 cups of the flour until combined.

Step Three(3)

Add the egg replacer and beat until incorporated. Add the other 1 1/2 cup of flour, and using the dough hook, beat for 3-5 minutes until dough completely pulls away from the insides of the bowl.

Step Four(4)

The dough should be smooth and soft. If the dough looks too sticky, add more flour maybe one tablespoon at a time until the dough is the right consistency. Once the dough is done, cover the top of the bowl with plastic wrap and let rise in a warm place until it has doubled in size, about one (1) hour.

Step Six(6)

Put about 2 inches of grapeseed oil or almond oil in a heavy pan and heat on medium/high for a few minutes. Oil will need to be very hot before you start. (Hint: Test it with a scrap or donut hole to see if it’s ready).

Step Seven(7)

When the donuts have risen to double their size, fry the donut dough in grapeseed oil for about 30 seconds per side. Check the bottom of the donuts and see if they are a beautiful golden color before flipping. DO NOT WALK AWAY FROM THE STOVE TOP- they fry pretty fast!

Step Eight(8)

Place donuts on paper towels to drain excess oil and then dip them in glaze and put them on a cooling rack with wax paper under it to set.

Step Nine(9)

Beware the doughnuts will still be HOT!
